General English

ABOUT THESE COURSES

These courses are designed for adults (aged 12 and over) who wish to improve their English for general communicative purposes.

These courses are offered at Elementary, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Each stage consists of four levels, each of which lasts 4 weeks (16 hours) with lessons twice per week (2 hours) either on Saturday/Tuesday, Sunday/Wednesday, or Monday/ Thursday.

Intensive English Courses
Choose 4 or 7 sessions per week if you aim to improve your confidence in the English language as quickly as possible. We work with a coursebook during the course enabling you to improve the four main skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing. As well as these four main skills we will also work on other key areas to help develop your fluency and accuracy – pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, idioms.

CONTENT
Each course has a set of prescribed learning aims which are aligned to the globally recognized Common European Framework (CEFR). The learning aims tell you what you should be able to do in English by the end of the course, and the alignment to the CEFR allows you to compare your level of English to other people across the globe.

During the courses you will develop your speaking, listening, reading, and writing, in addition to increasing the range and accuracy of your vocabulary and grammar.

There is a strong emphasis on speaking, with plentiful opportunities for you to practise speaking on realistic topics and situations. Listening and reading material is integrated in a

number of different ways to develop your skills. Your writing skills will be developed through regular writing sections and tasks.

There will be work on your pronunciation throughout the course and also the development of learning skills to enable you to become a better, more independent student.

COURSE ASSESSMENT
We use continuous assessment and testing to measure learners’ progress. The teacher will grade your speaking and participation during the course and you will do two assessed

writing tasks and an end-of-term progress test. You must

attend at least 90% of the course and make satisfactory progress to move to the next level.
